FAQ’s
- How many students per class – the number of students per class depends on the level and the time. Some classes are busier than others. Generally, the full capacity of hall 1 is 65 and hall 2 is 35. Average strength in a bc 1 class is between 10 – 25 students. A senior teacher can manage a class singlehandedly up to 75 students. An instructor can manage a class with upto 30 students. In online classes the capacity is 100 students per class. IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT IN ONLINE CLASSES A SINGLE DEVICE SUCH AS PHONE, TABLET OR LAPTOP IS EQUIVALENT TO ONE STUDENT REGISTRATION.
- Will the teacher give personal attention – The teachers at Shriyog are intuitively compassionate and undergo rigorous training for many years to address the differing needs of all kinds of students. We do not support or encourage modern teacher training programs that range from a month to six months only where the teachers lack knowledge and experience to understand the needs of differing students in every class. The different levels of classes address the differnt levels of students. one must complete the levels systematically as a lot of information and attention on practice is provided at each level
- Do you provide personal classes at home – Although possible, we encourage students to attend classes at the institute where Yoga props are available to improve, learn and benefit in the practice of asanas. For personal classes the fees are also much higher.
- Why classes are conducted only twice a week – Yoga is a way of life and not a mechanical form of exercise like running, Gym workouts, cycling etc. If one has to undergo a training that is transformational with Yoga then he or she has to understand the intensity and depth of practicing the science of Yoga. We expect our students to apply the learning from classes into their daily activities like walking, sitting, standing etc. The student learns about one’s own body and how to manage it in daily life. Getting into the discipline of coming to class twice a week throughout the year is a commitment that is not an easy one to keep up to. Over time the student also has to start practice of asanas at home on a regular basis.
- What do we practice on other days – Initially the student may choose to practice other light forms of exercises like walking, stretching or cycling that do not cause adverse effects on the muscles, joints or organs. In a few weeks, when the student begins to understands the art of asana practice as taught in the classes, he or she can start the same at home on a regular basis.
- Do you have weekend classes – We have a regular class on Saturdays and periodic workshops and open classes on Sundays. Sundays are mostly kept free for workshops and in-house training programs.
- Are the teacher here certified teachers – The teachers at Shriyog are intuitively compassionate and undergo rigorous training for many years to address the differing needs of all kinds of students. We do not support or encourage modern teacher training programs that range from a month to six months only where the teachers lack knowledge and experience to understands the needs of differing students. Our institite follows the Iyengar methodology of training teachers which an in-depth and life long process.
- Can we meet the teachers before enrolling into the class – Yes, if you are not satisfied with the information provided by the admissions team, then you can take an appointment to meet the teacher to clear doubts.
- What kind of yoga do you teach – Shriyog Institute follows the Iyengar system of learning asana and pranayama with a blend of an Ayurvedic lifestyle & Philosophy to bring health and wholeness. Asanas are taught with precision with clear instructions for alignment in muscles and joints. Sessions are liberally sprinkled with mini anatomy lessons to kindle interest in exploring this science of the self. Classes are conducted for beginners and advanced students as well as children, senior citizens and women.
- Do you teach meditation – In order to learn meditation, one has to be an healthy individual physically and mentally. By learning asanas and pranayama, one gets fit and only then he/she can proceed to the further steps of Ashtanga Yog such as Pranayama and meditation. If one attempts meditation without a healthy body, clear mind and proper practice of asanas and pranayama, it will be very harmful in the long run. These are just some of the reasons that meditation is not a part of our curriculum. However, by practicing asanas as taught at the institute one becomes more focused and aware in day to day activities. Hence an asana or pranayama class at Shriyog is like a practical meditation class.
- Fees – The fee structure at Shriyog is designed keeping in mind the efforts put in by our teachers to provide correct knowledge for practice of Asanas & Pranayama. Our fees are lowest in the industry considering service, amenities and teacher experience. The fees have an 18% GST levied by the government.
- What is Astanga Yoga – Astanga yoga has its detailed explanation in the Yog Sutras of Patanjali codified roughly 2500 yrs ago by Sage Patanjali. Shriyog Institute touches on all the 8 aspects of astanga yoga: Yama, Niyama, Asanas, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana and Samadhi.
- Will practicing yoga cure my BP, Diabetes and Thyroid – Practicing asanas will be greatly beneficial for those who suffer from these ailments. Results in energy levels, calmness and relief from stress can be felt in just a few sessions. With dedicated practice, in a few years it is possible to cure or control lifestyle related disorders
- Can I join a Level 2 or Intermediate batch directly – you can join if you have prior Iyengar yoga experience of minimum 1 year to join level 2 and minimum 2 years to join intermediate batches.
- What is the difference in each level batches – Level 1 is like a foundation in Iyengar Yoga. This is where you journey inwards begins. You will learn many techniques to mould, flex, twist, jump and balance in asanas. You will also learn basics of Pranayama here. Level 2 is taking your inward journey a step further with more difficult and variaions in Asanas along with Pranayama focusing on control of your body, breath and mind. Likewise in Intermediate classes one practices more difficult asanas and different Pranayamas to gain further control of the self. It is our strong recommendation that you start from Level 1 and grow with patience and correct learning as Yoga is a journey that has no shortcuts.
- What is difference between Iyengar yoga and other forms of yoga – Guruji BKS Iyengar worked selflessly for 80 years to refine the science of Asana & Pranayama practice that is suitable for todays generation that is suffering from physical and mental ailments. Guruji’s precise instructions to get into an asana, observe the asana and learn from the asana is renowned world over and practiced by millions. This is evident with Iyengar centres spread across the world. Iyengar Yoga often makes use of props, such as belts, blocks, and blankets, as aids in performing the asanas. The props enable all students, the elderly, or those with physical limitations to perform the asanas correctly, minimising the risk of injury or strain.
